Facebook Hits 30 Million Users In UK

Facebook has announced that the number accounts held in the UK has climbed to 30 million, around half the population of the entire country.

The recent figures are the result of an increase of four million from the number of UK users in the last 8 months. The results also show that despite the success of Twitter, Facebook is by fat the most dominant social network.

The Vice president of Facebook Europe Joanna Shield told a conference in London of her excitement at the new numbers, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg back in 2004 and has now got a grand total of more than 500 million active users worldwide. An active user is defined as one who has logged in during the past 30 days.

The statistics also show that half of the website’s users log in on any given day reaching a total of more than 700 billion minutes spent a month on the site- equating to 1.3 million years! It is thought that the average user has 130 friends and will use the network to create 90 items of content on a monthly basis.

The social network site really has grown massively since it was established as it now employs more than 2,000 people and a film has even been made about the Facebook story. The Social Network which is a film based on the true story of how Facebook was established has received numerous Oscar nominations.
