McDonalds today have revealed a plan to recruit 50,000 workers in a single day. It is thought that the proposal may be the biggest corporate recruitment drive over a 24-hour period in history.
The famous fast-food chain is looking to put the plan into action on April 19 at many of its 14,000 outlets across the US. Positions at all levels will be available from restaurant managers to those working on the front desk serving up burgers.
The large scale recruitment may seem like a publicity stunt to some and the company has even admitted that this is the case but that it will also help to fill much needed vacancies as word gets around.
McDonalds have said that the mass recruitment stunt is partly to help cope with seasonal demand over the summer as well as acting as a response to the improving economy. The jobs available will be a mixture of full-time and part-time.
McDonalds has often been given a hard time in the press and has long battled against the assumption that all of the jobs within the company are low-skilled. In the past the media has branded jobs at McDonalds as ‘McJobs.’
However, economists have warned that some of the job the US recovery is creating don’t actually match the wages of those positions, especially within the booming construction and housebuilding trade, that were lost to the recession.
Other analysts have slated the idea of an easy way of generating publicity to hiring that it would have had to do anyway.
