Footage of a man running through the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas after stealing $1.5 million worth of casino chips has been released by the Las Vegas Police Department.
The daring robbery was carried out by an armed man wearing a jumpsuit and a motorcycle helmet with white stripes. The footage shows the man robbing a betting table and then fleeing the scene on a motorcycle early on Tuesday.
The 11-second CCTV footage of the raid shows the man hotfooting it across the casino entry lobby and, at one point, turning and pointing the gun he is carrying behind him.
According to a police spokeswoman the man “pulled a gun, told everyone not to move and took approximately $1.5m worth of casino chips. The suspect then ran back out to the motorcycle and exited westbound on Flamingo Boulevard."
However, the casino’s owners and the police have said that the raider will have problems cashing in his chips, which range in value from $100 to $25,000 as they cannot be redeemed at any other casino.
"The industry has some safeguards in place that make that extremely difficult," said Clinton Nichols, of the Las Vegas police department.
Police believe the same man may have robbed the Las Vegas Suncoast Casino poker room cashier last week, where a suspect wearing a similar motorcycle helmet made off with around $20,000 (£12,610) in chips.
A spokeswoman for MGM, which owns the Bellagio, said: "Casino chips are not like cash. At some point they must be redeemed."
