60% of Brits are planning an overseas holiday this year and even those staying at home are bound spend at least a few days at the beach this summer. So this means it is time to upgrade your swimwear in keeping with this year's trends.
If you want to look hotter than Megan Fox in Transformers then you must wear something floral. The best colours are pinks, greens and blue and don't shy away from all over flower power either. If you pick the right style one piece, you won't end up looking like your gran. Look for swimsuits with cut away sections and string straps to add a bit of sex appeal.
Traditional swimsuits are making a return this year although forget all stereotypes they are now much edgier and more flattering than ever before. Tan lines may be more awkward but swimsuits are high on the fashion stakes in summer. Again, look for interesting and quirky designs that stop your one-piece from looking like something you would wear at your school swimming gala circa 1995.
Another 80s trend to get a revamp is animal print and it has lost all of its sleazy and trashy connotations. Monochrome 'zebra' or 'panther' are top choices for the most fashion conscious but colourful versions of animal prints are just as trendy.
Bikinis are even more incy-bitsy this summer. The most common is the old favourite 'triangle-shaped' top but bandeau style two pieces are also being pumped on the high street. Bandeau can be strapless or more on trend is to have the straps in the middle, going around your neck.
Ahoy Sailor: nautical is a key look this summer. Anything with anchors, stripes and ropes in red, blue and white will score you brownie points.
Seeing as summer proper is three to four months away, you have time to prepare. Getting into a bikini, unless you are a Victoria's Secret model, isn't exactly a pleasant experience. We are basically walking around in our underwear so getting bikini-fit will help you feel a little more confident when parading yourself in your waterproof smalls.
At least 30 minutes of activity a day is required to tone those legs and tum, and this does have to be more than walking to and from the bus stop. Go for a jog or bike ride and do some sit ups in front of Eastenders.
Just before b-day (beach day) check in with your beautician for some last minute buffing, exfoliating, waxing and tanning. Being ready for summer doesn't have to be that hard.
